Hosts

Drew and Susie Barlow, your humble hosts, like to feel they offer more than just the accommodation and service expected in any quality establishment.

Drew is a 5th generation Kiwi, returned from a long OE, and Susie is from Norfolk.  Both have lived and travelled extensively in Africa and Europe and, you may have guessed, are fond of animals (…and photography).

We also enjoy gardening, travel, sailing, walking, and cooking, but most of all living in New Zealand and welcoming visitors to our home.  We can guide you to the best spots to go tramping, swimming, diving, shopping, dining out, or whatever it is you are interested in.

Meet our family

We have our own beef and sheep grazing in the paddock. Also a dog, two cats, a few chickens and five guinea fowl (to create the authentic sound of Africa).

Let the tranquility of Kauri Villas provide the perfect setting for your well-earned rest.

“Thank you Drew and Susie for your warm and generous hospitality in your elegant and comfortable home.” - Penny, UK.

Poor Knights & Tutukaka

When you’ve had enough of sunsets and bay views, a stroll to the east side of the property reveals the Poor Knights in all their glory, one of the top ten diving sites in the world. Whether you’re interested in bush walks, diving, shopping, dining out or local walks…we can guide you to the best spots. More about local Whangarei attractions…

Native Birds & Bush Walks

Our property spans 12 acres with extensive native bush and waterfalls leading down to a wide stream, overhung with ferns. We are visited by Kaka, a fascinating and very special parrot, most mornings and evenings along with a host of other native New Zealand birds. More about our local New Zealand birdlife...
