Kauri Trees

Kauri Villas is named after New Zealand’s native Kauri trees.

Kauri are among the world’s mightiest trees, growing to more than 50 metres tall, with trunk girths of up to 16 metres. They covered much of the top half of the North Island when the first people arrived around 1000 years ago.

Maori used their timber for boat building, carving and housing and their gum for starting fires and chewing (after it had been soaked in water and mixed with the milk of the puha plant).

Have a look at the beautiful Kauri wood floors inside our villa. There are several bushwalks in and around Whangarei where you can see kauri trees up close. Just let us know and we can tell you where to find them.

We have a 25ft trailer sailer which we can take you out on while you are staying. We launch from Parua Bay. There are some beautiful bays and beaches close to us. See photos below.

Kaka Come to Visit

Kaka are a native New Zealand bird, thought to be threatened with extinct on the mainland of New Zealand until recently.

We consider ourselves to be lucky to have 8 to 12 of these fascinating and very special parrots coming to visit us most mornings and evenings at Kauri Villas. See photo left. We also have kingfishers, tui, morepork, wood pigeons, pukako, delightful little fantails and other native birds on the property.
